Antique Old Pedal Car American National Garton Gendron Steelcraft Early Vintage

This is most likely a pre depression era "Garton Pedal Car" as few could afford such a luxury post depression. The wheels do not have spokes which would indicate a late 1920's or an early 1930's pedal car. The wheels are pressed sheet metal.

The wood grill has all its original paint but the body is mostly surface rust from many years sitting in a barn in Maine. I bought my neighbors house following his death and it contained all the contents including 75 tires. This pedal car was in the barn but had no front wheels or steering mechanism.

Nearby was a wooden trailer made to be towed behind a tricycle. Upon closer observation I found out that the trailer wheels were the front wheels of the pedal car. I took them off the trailer and put them back on the pedal car. The rubber on the wheels is still intact.

The metal body is slightly bent out of shape but can easily be straightened. I have looked at many hundreds of antique pedal car photos but never saw another pedal car identical to this one. Some of the old Gartons are very similar but none are identical. I don't know if this car is the only remaining one of this type but I cannot find another like it.
