EARLY 1900s VINTAGE GENDRON PIONEER MODEL VELOCIPEDE EXTRA. This is an ultra rare early 1900s vintage.
Model extra large wheel tricycle that has an extremely unique frame, neck, and handlebar design even for time period it was made in. Early advertisements from 1914 from companies featuring both the Gendron Pioneer Standard velocipede tricycles by name and also the 1914 Sears, Roebuck, & Company catalog show this exact model of velocipede tricycle.
This is the #3 size model and largest of the series having a 24 front wheel and 16 rear wheels. The front wheel has an actual measurement of 23-3/4 tall x 5/8 wide and the rear wheels are 15-3/4 tall x 5/8 wide. The rubber is complete all the way around on the three wheels and shows all the wear, marks, and chips associated with years of use but in pretty good condition taking in to consideration its age. The original sprung seat is complete though it does have wear, cracking, and separation damage associated with being 100+ years old.
The velocipede tricycle appears to be all original other then having been repainted blue at some point in its life a long time ago and possibly not having the original style of grips. I believe they were all originally painted black. I also believe they had leather covered wood grips but it appears at some point they were replaced with what are very early rubber type grips also showing their age.The tricycle is 40-1/2 long, 35-3/4 high, and 20-1/2 wide. The handlebars are adjustable so the above height measurement is at their current setting. The handlebar width currently is 14 but again adjustment can change that. The seat is also adjustable but currently set at approximately 27 high from the ground. The seat itself measures 7 in length x 5-3/4 in width. Please use the pictures to determine the condition for yourself. Additional pictures are also available upon request.
